I'm looking for a modpack with Reika's mods that's regularly updated

...because most modpacks I could find haven't been updated for quite some time. The pack with the most recent update I could find is "Ascension of the Technomancer", but from the description it likely has far too much fighting for my taste. And it still has v18b when current is 19c.

Basically, I'm looking to play Reika's mods again in their newest versions, preferably in a thematically interesting modpack including both magic and technology but with at least an option for easy fighting, but I don't want to get stuck with a modpack where I can't use the newest versions. I can always update myself, but in complex modpacks that carries some risk, so I want to minimize that.

Since Reika's suite was not updated past 1.7, and the current modding scene has moved to 1.12, you may find it hard to find a pack with said mods that updates frequently. Reika always had a habit of updating quickly, which to many pack developers, was almost a Curse to keep up with. Granted, things should be easier since most of the 1.7 mods haven't been supported in a while, and thus require less frequent updates on the whole.

Ieldra, slightly off topic, but if you maintain an image-thread if your progress in whatever pack you find I'll probably keep an eye on it. Rotary/Reactorcraft modpacks are fun to follow.

Back on topic: Modpacks that will include Reika mods and also suit your style (and I happen to recall that you are in fact a expert-mode type of player) are kinda hard to make because historically those mods were rigidly balanced within themselves and didn't play nice with other technical mods.

Reika has since eased up considerably but the "damage" if you will is done and by now as you're aware there's fewer and fewer people making those 1.7.10 packs anymore.

I may just do that. Things are being difficult, though. I thought of diggin up the latest Revolution Pack (it's one year old) and just update Reika's mods, but it has Realistic Terrain Generation and I can't stand that. Currently, I'm trying to tweak Ascension of the Technomancer... enchantment ID conflicts when updating CrC to v19, grrr... and that it also has GregTech doesn't make this easier.

I guess the frequent mod updates have also been a factor, though that has slowed down considerably, too. The end of last year saw v17, now v19 is just a month old. My most stable experience was Reika's Dragon Realm pack, and I'll ask him if I can get the newest version if everything else fails, but naturally it's focused on the mods that have interaction with Reika's mods, and it lacks a few others I'd rather have, too.

I feel like I checked out the ascension thing once, basically for the same reason you are. Iirc it had zero scripting, which means its basically just a conglomeration of mods.

edit: nevermind, im wrong (or at least, I'm no longer right)

I decided to give Ascension of the Technomancer a try. It does look fascinating, and its worlds are full of interesting structures - that's what miss in the 1.10 packs.

Interesting structures in 1.10 is easy to get. Ruins, Recurrent Complex, Roguelike Dungeons, and even Quark, to some extent, can fill a world with things to explore.

I must admit, I've considered on more than one occasion going back to 1.7 to play with Reika's suite and Thaumcraft again. Those are what I miss most from the 1.7 days.

One of the new mods includes a world type called "Lost Cities" that is available as a World Creation option. This generates Cities which are infested with mobs. As I understand it there is also a dimension you can create a link to that will take you there from the Overworld.

Direwolf20 1.12.2 hast the mod, I just haven't researched exactly which mod it is, though :)

That would be Lost Cities by McJty. I've tried a few times to start a playthrough where the entire world is a ruined city using that as world gen, and it feels very different. Not bad, necessarily, just very different. If I had the time, I would enjoy building a pack dedicated to reclaiming civilization, but that is definitely not in the cards for me right now.

I haven't managed to get biome-like cities in my world working, but I've not had any free time to really test it. It's something I do want to play with once life calms down a bit.
