do i need minecraft game to play this mod (?stupid question?sorry)

not sure if i need it? and if i do which is best ?
stuck on microsoft store, bouncing between 'starter collection', 'master collection' or regular 'minecraft windows 10'?

You will need the Java Edition of Minecraft, not the Windows 10 (or Bedrock) Edition.
