I'm currently playing singleplayer on the Direwolf20 1.7.10 modpack for Minecraft version 1.0.3.

This is my setup;

Corsair Hydro Series H100i CPU Cooler
Samsung 840 EVO Series SSD; which has my operating system and anti virus installed on it.
4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM
Intel Core i7 4790k CPU @ 4.00GHz
2x Asus Radeon R9 290X DirectCU OC 4GB; linked via Crossfire.
ASUS z97 Mark1 Motherboard
Corsair RM-1000 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB drives; containing all my games.
Running legit, fully updated Windows 8.1 Operating System.

It automatically does virus scans and de-fragments once per week, I've done them manually just to make sure but they're working as expected.

The computer is fairly new, has been treated well. I have force updated the pack so everything is at it's most recent version.

My in-game settings;

Graphics: Fast
Smooth Lighting: Minimum
3D Anaglyph: OFF
Clouds: OFF
Mipmap Levels: OFF
Render Distance: 9 Chunks
Max Framerate: 60FPS
View Bobbing: OFF
Particles: Decreased
Use VSync: OFF
Anisotropic Filtering: OFF

I'm playing on Hard with the FOV set at 90, there are no shaders installed, I've swapped to a lower resolution and seemingly more plain/blended texture pack at the moment but no noticeable difference on frame rate.

I usually end up running at about 20 FPS, sometimes it jumps to 30, but never higher, and never for long.
If I attempt to explore the landscape, I need to stop and wait every 15 seconds for about 15 more seconds for the world gen to catch up, and sometimes it just doesn't catch up at all.

Unfortunately, this is beginning to ruin my minecrafting experience and I'm hoping someone a little brighter than myself can provide some insight.

I've reinstalled it and played with the settings multiple times and I just can't get any better performance out of my machine, but I can play games like Diablo 3 or Call of Duty on maximum graphics with 60+ frames no problem.

I'm not particularly computer intelligent, I only know the basics. So it's entirely possible that I'm missing something blatantly obvious. Any help would be extremely appreciated!

Thank you for your time!

Download the mod Fastcraft and put it in your mods folder. Also you might want to allocate more RAM to minecraft via the slider in the launcher. 3gb has always worked for me, and you probably shouldnt go higher than that.

I have also some performance problems with DW20 1.7.10

I do the following to increase the performance:
  • I use a server version and connect with a local client. It spreads the CPU usage between the client and server a little bit. The client only version is not able to use the different cores of the CPU.
  • I have installed Optifine on the client.
  • I have installed Fastcraft on client and server.
Each point helps a little bit. All together they help much.

The new version of Fastrcraft that is included in Infinity (Yes, it's been released for official pack use!) works wonders on my hardware... When I ran Infinity with Fastcraft disabled (default state) I saw about 40FPS. After enabling it I'm now seeing 60+ FPS with peaks over 100... Of course, your mileage may vary.

BTW, DW20 has mentioned some bugfixes coming in the next DW20 pack update, so something is in the works.

I am using an old i5 760 OC'd to 3.66 ghz, a 560 TI graphics card, and 1600 mhz ddr3 ram. I allocated 3.5 gb of ram in the launcher while using a texture pack and 2.75 with no textures and even with my old hardware in a semi developed world, I am running 60 FPS + or - 15 FPS. That is with my render distance on 16, max smooth lighting, fancy graphics, and all particles. I have added Fastcraft which added 10-30 FPS for me, depending on where I am in the world. I also found that selecting "Use java arguments for fast computers" in the launcher killed my FPS. It was around 40 and if I hit F7 to see light levels where mobs could spawn, my FPS dropped to less than 5. With this turned off, hitting F7 causes no noticeable FPS drop. I also upgraded to Java 8 and that gave me about 5-10 FPS gain. In testing, I also found that using the Vsync built into MC also killed my FPS. With Vsync off, and Max Framerate set to 60, I was consistently below 50. By setting the max framerate to 80, my FPS stays in the 55-70 range running 64x texture packs. It seems that their are some issues with how the in game setting limit FPS. Whether it is related to my hardware, or it affects everyone , I am not sure.
So after alot of testing, I found the most stable setup for me. Don't select Use optimizations for fast computers in the launcher. Use Java 8 with no JVM arguments. There may be some arguments that work, but the old ones for Java 7 do not work properly and Java 8 is much better optimized on it's own. Allocate 2.75-3.5 gigs of Ram( with or without Texture packs). Install Fastcraft. Do not use the in game Vsync. Set your Max framerate in game setting to 10-20 FPS above what you would like to have. These things combined give me 50-60 constant with a 64x texture pack while my world has a cursed earth mob farm(has it's own AE network and power gen), a large AE2 network, a pneumaticraft network, 1 conventional big reactor, one big reactor/turbine combo, and ender quarry in the deepdark(so it is always chunk loaded), an enderthermic pump and wither spawner in the nether(it is always loaded), and a large Botania building eating lava and te feed mana to about a dozen mana spreaders and pools. I also have a few automated farms. In the end, 3 dimensions loaded and all that stuff running and my game is very smooth and stable. Not sure if it is java 8, Fastcraft, or a combination of both, but this is by far the most stable world I have ever had in modded MC. Usually by the time I get this far into a world, it is becoming unplayable.
