I haven't played in a while and am currently playing the Ultimate 1.5.2 Beta with GregTech. I am wondering since Redpower is no more what can I use for redstone cable? I used to use the multi colored wire to route my factory switches to a central location where everything could be turned on in one place. It was convenient because it could be used to go up and down walls, ceilings, etc, where redstone dust would not.

So without those mods what alternative is there?

Minefactory Reloaded. Their redstone cable is PERFECT for you. You can even send multiple colored signals through the same wire.

As to wireless redstone, computercraft is probably your best bet.

There is a Simple Wireless Redstone Trick:

Both on the Same Frequency.
Left one: Redstone Disabled, Send Only
Right one: Redstone Disabled, Receive Only
BC Gate: If Active Input Link = Redstone Signal
???: Profit!

Also, for smaller logic setups, there's the Redstone Logic mod. Replicates the circuits and the wiring of RP2., ideal for when the the MFR is overkill.

ChickBones, the maker of wireless redstone, said that ender chest and comparators work. I have no idea how comparators work though. I am thinking something like place an item in a ender chest, and the comparator on the other side ?will send a signal?

Expensive, but Ingenius. I was using minecarts for the same thing.

I'm not the best at vanilla Redstone, but when put adjacent to an inventory, they detect the amount of items present in that inventory, and output a signal strength that is proportional to the amount of items inside in proportion to the available space, so the more items it detects, the bigger the signal it outputs. Items that don't stack give the value of a full stack, items that only stack to 16 increase the signal faster as they're stacked than items that go to 64 and so on. With that, comparators can be used in redstone logic gates to activate a circuitry when they've detected a certain amount of items in the inventory. It's pretty awesome.

With the ender chest being basically a wireless inventory which the comparator can detect, you can set up a rudimentary wireless redstone logic system by using comparators attached to enderchests to transmit a signal even across dimensions, if the area is properly chunk loaded, that is.

Cheers Boss. :)

@ Santa: Yep, that is the original wireless redstone from beta minecraft. It was updated to 1.5 back in April I believe? Works great, but never tried it for SMP.

However, CB has a 1.5.2 WR-CBE and is speaking with Immibis. Don't think it is public yet. May not be until 1.6.1.
