Adding Mods to Mindcrack server

I am using a Creeperhost Mindcrack modpack server. and i tried to add mystcraft earlier today but when i tried to use anything from mystcraft the server crashed. i asked the people at Creeperhost if it were possible to add mods to the modpack. and they replied "no you cant, thats why its called a modpack because you can only use the mods in it". if you cant add mods why would the launcher give you the option to add mods.

Yes, you can. Make sure you have the updated version of forge for mystcraft, as mystcraft did not support the forge version that initially came with the mindcrack pack.
