Actually I restarted the game and created a new world 3 times before attempting the downgrade. Each time the monsters appeared.

Mine was brand new single-player world.

I didn't realize regular MineCraft was a race/competition. What are they getting ahead or falling behind of?

Like with most mods like this, I believe if you don't want them, turn them off in the configs. Don't deny them for everyone else who may have a use for them.

I'm just waiting for the 1.6 version to be available. Seen her and Myrathi use it on Forgecraft2, but guess it's not ready for public yet.
