I had this problem myself. Frankly, I strongly dislike TE all around, for the most part - it's very boring to me in the same way AE is. I actually use Railcraft for most of my item transport, so I really wanted the noisy, clanking engines on my boiler. I found the simplest solution to this...

Personally, I think the ME system is total garbage, and would never use it. I would choose anything from Railcraft.

The API is for mod devs, and is not a mod itself. Just need the core :)

Atomic Science is actually an extremely awesome mod - the reactors and particle accelerator it adds are some of the coolest things in Minecraft. I really have no idea why it isn't used more widely - It's a damn sight more interesting than IC2.
