    NEI, or if that for some reason fails, look up the id for the portal block and use the /give command

    In vanilla at least, no. Only Mojang knows, but my money is either they just don't want it or it is for balance (fully automated tree farms that need no afking anyone?) Turtles and block placer from most mods should be able to plant them though.

    Ah, sorry. I get the node status things mixed up in my head sometimes. I don't think you can plug multiple node stabilizes into a node as they seem to have to be facing up, but I have never tried this. Even if you can there would still be the question of would multiple stabilizers actually...

    May have just been some kind of player data screwup, I remember on the first mindcrack modded server generikb got a bee DNA thing in his helmet slot

    The node stabilizers (both normal and...the node-bulling one I forget the name of) have a small chance of making a pale node normal again (check the thauminocon entry if you want proof). That is most likely what happened.
