I will recommend Direwolf20's pack over Beyond at this time for new players, as even in it's kitchen sink version, the pack developers have made recipe changes, and have altered terrain generation to suit their needs for when they switch over to having expert mode.

Actually, giving MC more ram can slow down your game. 4 gigs is okay. I've got 24gigs of ram in my system (lots of rendering/editing etc) with an older i7 and 4.5gigs works fine for me (YMMV)

No. Like Quetzi said, any packs previous to the 1.10.2 packs are only going to get patched if it actually breaks the game (IE won't start, crashes etc) Does the mod have an updated version for 1.7.4? If so, feel free to update it yourself, and see if it works.

If you use tinkers' tool leveling mod, you can gain extra modifiers over time (use = tool exp etc)

Okay, this may not be a simple question to answer, but it's gotta be asked... Why has the FTB team decided to disable certain mod blocks/ores in the kitchen sink version of the Beyond pack? I could understand when it comes to the Expert Mode version, but the plain one? Makes no sense. AA...

Minecraft doesn't allow non-Oped players to place/break blocks or activate redstone buttons/levers within the spawn area, this is probably your issue with not being able to place the block.

If I remember correctly, isn't Chisel'n'Bits in the DW20 pack? If so, you could just make what you want to, instead of adding in another mod. I've heard nothing but decent things about the surprisingly low impact having multiple "chiseled" items in your world.

No. Downgrading (Beyond is 1.10) to a previous version of mods will break everything. Upgrading (from Infinity 1.7.4) to Beyond will also break too much to make the world playable. Sorry for the bad news.

This is very true. For example, in Beyond there is no wold gen (that I've been able to find) of the blocks you need for the Environmental Tech mod. Again, thankfully, they added a recipe for Hardened Stone.

Two things Quanten... 1: The thread is 2 years old. Dimension ID conflicts are not relevant to packs past 1.7.4 2: You are trying to add a mod that adds in underground wold generation in a skyblock. I'm quite sure that's gonna give you a hard time. Try adding it to a non-skyblock pack.

This. I've had a lot of Nether generation that have no Fortresses for 500+ blocks. I pop in, get my quartz and some blaze rods (thank you random Blaze spawns in the Nether) then I GTFO until I can fly.

At least in Beyond, the FTB folk have turned off AE2 Meteor wold (scaring... err umm) generation. They added a recipe to make the plates and the Skystone. I'm still sticking with RS tho'

Refined Storage is basically a copy of AE1. Both have their plus/minus points, and depending on the application, one may be better than the other (see Direwolf20's let's play where he automates Botania Runes using AE2, something that could not be done with RS) It's also a matter of play style...
