MCPC+ is not a plugin, it is a server jar that combines Forge and Bukkit, allowing you to use both mods and plugins. Essentials is a bukkut plugin that adds the /nick command (along with about a billion others)

I had this item the other day and it ended up being because the server somehow ended up trying to start the MC server multiple times, so there was 7 instances of java running. Login via SSH and run top to see if you might be having the same issue. Just suggesting this as your issue sounds...
