    That's by design. Apparently there's some way that will allow you to open it up later, though I've not gotten to it yet. Making bags is pretty easy right off though, and is what I did (and what I think most people are doing).

    I actually spend a fair amount of time on peaceful in most mod packs, including this one, when I'm just messing around in my base area. Just add Harder Peaceful or one of those mods so that you still have hunger ticking.

    Watching mDiyo's Regrowth stream on Twitch, he was using Rannuncarpuses to do this and it seemed to be working REALLY well. I was surprised. I'd never have thought of that.

    The Botania tools can be quite nice. Self-repairing with mana. Most have right-click abilities (place block, place torch). The terra shatterer can do like the hammer and clear larger areas. They're not quite as fancy as the Tinkers stuff, but I think they are often overlooked.

    Also handy is that things can be below the altar. I buried the limit of 20 pumpkins and 20 melons in a circle around my altar and it was a nice little boost. I've heard of folks building flower rooms underneath but I haven't needed to take it that far yet.

    So funny thing.... I walk outside and neither sapling has grown, neither the one near my Witchery area which I've been watching for game days and game days, nor the newer one I planted nearer to the node that's within my walls. So I cheat in a Hoe of Growth (not that far on research yet)...
