Oh no, I don't mean you can't use stone tools or the smeltery. Just that people having hammers, lumber-axes, etc. within the first 30 minutes of caving (shouldn't take longer than that to get enough ore for 4 metal blocks)

I'd make it so the tool forge (the TiCon thing that makes hammers and stuff) so that you need to have done a fair amount of Botania and/or Thaumcraft, so people are more likely to use the 3x3 miners/better axes from those mods, rather than the TiCon ones. Maybe have JABBA barrels require, at the...

Seeing as mods are made to be played alone (generally) then all your "downsides" are good features. Not to mention, without other mods harvesting fir/redwood trees isn't an easy task that can just be done at the snap of a finger

Well TBF highlands doesn't add many "obvious" biomes. A lot of highland biomes are biomes that are essentially vanilla biomes on steroids. But I believe highlands does have it's own world gen option (as BoP does)... which is another thing that ticks me off. I understand it's a thing you can...

I find that the vanilla biomes aren't enough... and this is coming from someone who doesn't build for aesthetics. But I cannot stand BoP. Poison ivy annoys me (the wither one more so), the flesh in the nether (it's useless), the ore gen it has (again, useless), half of the biomes/stuff it adds...
