FTB to partner with Nerd Kingdom to help develop TUG.

Should I take this to assume that Slow is no longer an employee?

[Question] Are any of the modpacks in FTB uptodate with MC 1.8?

You're probably referring to this screenshot that Lex tweeted a few days ago. Unfortunately you'll notice that Forge is missing. Seems it was only an early build of FML. Going by the Github activity, Forge doesn't seem to have been touched yet.

[Question] Are any of the modpacks in FTB uptodate with MC 1.8?

Yeah I don't see Forge for 1.8 coming out any time soon, from the look of things. And that doesn't count the time it'll take to bring mods over once that's finished. You're probably looking at months before there are any FTB 1.8 packs.

    Santa's (Hopefully) Helpful Links!

Forge #960 through #964 use Gradle. #965, for some reason, uses the traditional MCP system. It's also broken because there's an invalid MD5 found on the server JAR, so you have to tweak the config or the code to get beyond that.

Mod Updating to 1.8 Progress Spreadsheet

So countless hours of figuring this new mess out has started to pay off. I went ahead and started porting Hopper Ducts directly over as a JAR mod, just to see if I had a decent grasp on how everything works now. It's basically written from scratch so far since they're not complicated. The...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Dire taught me that anything can be defeated with enough mods. Well, except Endermen, who may be behind the Microsoft buyout. It's too early to tell.

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

I completely agree that a game needs an existing base to build from if you intend to get modders interested. There needs to be content there which I enjoy already, enough to inspire me to want to add to or change things. If I wanted to build something from the ground up then I'd just make my...

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

Oh sorry, you're right. Forgot that the topic was about open-source ones specifically. I saw that it was C# and immediately thought moddable since that language is similar to Java in regards to decompilation. I already saw part of the code just when using ILSpy on it, even.

Thoughts about open source Minecraft alternatives?

I'm not going to go as far as to say that this is a Minecraft alternative yet, but my brother has been enjoying it a bit: https://saltthegame.com/ It's written in Unity with C#, by the look of it.

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Wait till Microsoft discovers the clause in the contract where Mojang forgoes any responsibility in regards to Herobrine's actions.

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Microsoft letting people continue making Youtube videos without hassle isn't really indicative of anything because they generally have a lax streaming policy to begin with. Modding is the key issue as far as I'm concerned and that's one thing they haven't addressed. Even DLC and junk is less...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

I know that your intentions are in the right place, but I feel it's worth saying that Kickstarter would be a really bad idea. There's a big can of worms there when there's a big pile of money on the table, with various people potentially willing to contribute to a project but wary of who...

So... How long until someone writes MineClon from scratch?

The nice thing about the way Minecraft has been implemented is that the login system is pretty much irrelevant to playing the game. They didn't cram it full of useless DRM, so one day when the auth servers are gone it won't matter as much to distribute a simple launcher or launcher patch that...

    1.7.10 Alpha Packs

Is it just me, or does everyone else hear "Tuuubes!" exclaimed in their head every time that mod is referenced?

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Yes but that mod actually does it properly. This one was going to be through annoying console spam, because that's how Clippy rolls. Though that's also partially because I haven't deobfuscated all of the GUI subclasses yet (and lordy there sure are a lot of them these days).

So... How long until someone writes MineClon from scratch?

Even though Minecraft does its share of multithreading, more so now than it used to (I count 15 threads running when you're in a singleplayer world), it's not really a cure-all for performance issues, because the problem now becomes synchronization. Sometimes one thread has to wait for another...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Time to wear out this joke. Yep that's 1.8. Nope I haven't actually written code to reobfuscate it into a downloadable mod yet. I did think about making him tell you what block you're looking at, and offer to help you find one if you're not looking at one, at which point it could be almost...

So... How long until someone writes MineClon from scratch?

Terasology and Minetest already exist, and I'm sure there's countless others. I even started working on my own months ago, until I had a "why am I doing this when I can just play Minecraft" moment. The two I mentioned are a bit resource-intensive compared to Minecraft, but maybe they'll work...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

Gates was making money long before Windows though, if that's what you're referring to. And whether there was any actual IP theft involved with Windows/Apple/Xerox has been debated for decades. After Apple sued Microsoft, Xerox sued Apple for the exact same thing. Apple lost their case against...

    Opinions on Microsoft buying Mojang

You're correct, Steve Jobs was a notably selfish man throughout his life, and his biography made no attempt to hide that fact. Bill on the other hand never cared to make a fool of himself for internal Microsoft videos, promotional events, or random things like the ice bucket challenge, and...
