BetterFPS makes sense to me. I loaded vanilla and didn't have any problems. I'll take it out and see if that fixes it. Edit because I never came back to update on this: yes, removing Better FPS fixed the problem. I installed FoamFix instead.

The problem is persisting with a new modpack. I think I'll have to clean out my .minecraft folder and start fresh on everything. *sigh*
