Remember, Win10/PE and Java versions are slowly cross-pollinating... The recent rendering improvements came from MCPE and Win10 has been getting the newer world-gen stuff for a while now... I expect once Win10 sees multicore we will soon see a Java version as well.

The best thing I can recommend is to watch one (or more) of Direwolf20's "Let's Play" YouTube video series. Pick the one based on the version of Minecraft you want to play... His current series, 8, uses version 1.10.2 of Minecraft. He tries to show all the steps, even if you may want to pause...

Check Direwolf20's current LP. In some of the earlier episodes he set up Canola as his primary energy source, and had the whole thing producing on demand. If I recall correctly, he starts building his "permanent" energy room in EP 10 or so.

As I understand it Galacticraft didn't play well with the other mods and caused problems. I may be wrong, though... My understanding tends to daydream occasionally :D
