Between 1.4.2 and 1.4.6 (mainly 1.4.5) improvements have been made to the ore dictionary and mod's support for it. One mod used to convert between equivalent ores is omnitools. This is what will be in future FTB releases (and is in the magic world pack).

When creating the solar panels require an industrial centrifuge (or industrial electrolyzer) and possibly an industrial blast furnace (in 1.4.5). All these are gregtech items. Is it not right to blame gregtech based on this evidence?

Actually the modpack is compatible with HD textures without optifine. It is a feature of forge.
