Way to control Mob Density?

Hey, I run a small server with about half a dozen people and noticed we get a few issues now and then, using opis it seemed to indicate a lot of the server resources were being used by ridiculous numbers of squids.
I was wondering if there's a admin/server mod that lets you control mob spawning/density.
I've searched for one but all I can find is mods that kill already spawned mobs.

the clearlagg plugin can do this.

Not sure what's in your pack, but take a look at this. CoFHCore adds some admin commands that may be useful. I have not used these commands so I can't vouch for them specifically.
