Industrial Centrifuge

I've been experimenting with GregTech today. After noticing that the recipes for the industrial centrifuge require six digit EU counts, I decided that my lowly generator + batbox setup wasn't cutting it. So I built a MFE and hooked up the centrifuge to that.

Which promptly resulted in a violent detonation.

So now I'm confused. Am I honestly expected to use a 32 EU/t LV current to feed a machine that eats 250,000 EU for one single task? Apparently there's zero documentation on that.

    Anyone tried this out yet?

While I can't speak specifically to the max input/output on GregTech items, I can tell you that they're specifically designed to make IndustrialCraft more "endgame." What this means for the layman is simply, "Hard as poo." Macerators cost three diamonds instead of three flint, stuff like that. The mod author specifically stated in his wiki that centrifuge's would not be given slots for upgrades (overclocker/transformer)...he feels that makes them too easy, it would seem.

TL;DR - GregTech, to me, is the IC^2 equivalent of hardcore vanilla Minecraft. It's just freaking hard. XD

I would get one of the Greg Tech storage blocks that is able to hold >1,000,000EU while being 32EU/t. I think there's one or two where you can adjust the EU output.

I believe his frustration lies in the fact that he expected a machine with such a massive EU bank to be able to handle a greater input than 32 EU/t.

Yes, however what I said is that a Greg Tech storage block would be able to store the EU needed for the centrifuge while not causing a violent explosion as a solution to the fact a centrifuge can't accept more than 32EU/t while still needing vast amount of EU.

It's not really hard, it just adds tedium.

Obviously I could have done that, but how should I have known? That's the whole point, the type of storage block is irrelevant. There's just not enough information available, so I'm trying to fish for people's experiences.

there is a Greg tech computer, that has a lot of info about the mod in it. just hook up 32eu/t tick to it and have look, it might help

Yeah the Centrifuge should use Medium Voltage. I have no idea who would be stupid enough to run an Industrial Centrifuge on Low Voltage^^. It does not make much sense.

But since the Centrifuge needs a lot of time for the operations (EU consumed / 100 Seconds) 5 EU/t are enough to power the Centrifuge so it does not really need more, but it is very slow and using Low Voltage for a machine like an industrial centrifuge does not make sense.

I have no experience what so ever with gregs tech mod but from what I have read here it seems kinda dumb. Have the reason that IC2 is so great is that you can get it up and running right from the get go just about. But not only can you get it running quickly it also requires a lot of time and expense to get to the more advanced things like MFSU's and Nuclear reactors (reactors even more so now). IC2 has always seem balanced just right for me. You get awesome things like faster ore cooking and double outputs, but you need quite a bit of power (which come at a high cost of materials/time) to keep those machines running.

So yeah this pretty much sounds like a rant of how horrible gregs tech mod is, but I don't mean for it to come across that way. Im sure that it adds some good functionality that IC2 doesn't have, I have just lived with IC2 for so long that its hard to imagine it any different. :)

It seems only half-implemented, after looking at the in-game recipes for IC2 wind, geothermal, and solar power sources. That, or someone's got some serious hate going on for solar power.

?? Not sure if that comment was directed at me, but I assure you I have no hate for any of the mods, simply preferences. Also you cant forget IC2 has nuclear, not sure if gregs tech mod does.

Gregs tech is supposed to be an expansion of IC2. It's really designed to start where the MFSU/Nuke plant/etc. end off. However, he also chose to target some of the IC2 stuff that was possibly a bit easy. Thankfully, there is a nice config file that contains all of this. You can fully disable all of the more expensive IC2 recipes so you won't have to touch greg tech until after you have peaked in IC2.

It's hate for Solar. Solar Power is completely free, you don't have to provide any resource at all, and it's a fairly good amount. It is also extremely simple to place. When compounded with advanced solar/compact solars, this goes up exponentially. A couple of HV solar arrays are more powerful than a nuke plant, with absolutely no resource cost or risk of explosion.

Again though, you can just disable that in the config if you don't like it:)

Pretty sure R3Testa meant Greg having a hatred for Solar because of the far more difficult recipes.

Oh, and in holding with GT being an expansion onto IC2, yes...it has its own superior version of a nuke plant: A Fusion power plant. Yea, I wouldn't expect to see one legit without some pretty massive work though. Like...REALLY massive work. I think it needs over a stack of Iridium Plates. NTM all of the masses of other materials. It's pretty cool though, I def. recommend checking it out.

I'm generally a fan of making things harder, and of having to actively maintain something that grants you an unusual benefit. But GregTech is really starting to try my patience. While the concept is nice and the config file is great, the mod itself seems more poorly thought out the more I get into it.

I'll have a look at what's in that computer block though.

GregTech does also add some extra components for nuclear power, including new fuels, from centrifuging Uranium I think. Personally, I haven't used it much yet but I'm a big fan already. Plenty of good info here, written by Greg himself: http://wiki.industrial-craft.net/index.php?title=IndustrialCraft-Addons:GregTech-Addon

I'm actually really looking forward to playing around with the translocators, making a pipe-less processing centre.

I wouldn't even call a writeup that doesn't even mention the most basic of energy consumption facts about the machines "good info". The lacking documentation is the only reason this thread even exists.

Well it's a wiki, go edit it.

the problem i have is likely to be resolved with the addtion of ee3 back in... i normally rely on solar to start my enterprise and now i cant run my quarry without fuel of some sort as of right now even the basic solar panel is out of my reach due to solar the cenifuge being so expensive... it bothers me that that nuclear is they best choice for power transtioning into for early to mid game

Just start with either charcoal or geothermals... both are as OP as ever and you can also extend them with some automation later.

I've got myself a Railcraft steam engine/boiler setup for powering my quarry and forestry machines. The rate that it goes through Peat; that is OP.
