Forge and Optifine

Just wondering if anyone knew, but where does the compatibility between Forge and Optifine lay? Is Optifine's compatibility in Forge or vice versa? I'm only wondering this after seeing the following code in the FTB Launcher's console:

2013-03-26 16:53:12 [INFO] [ForgeModLoader] Forge Mod Loader has detected optifine OptiFine_1.4.6_HD_D5, enabling compatibility features

This leads me to believe that Forge compensates for Optifine. Am I correct?

Just to note, I installed Optifine myself. The FTB Launcher didn't do it for me.

Both co-complement each other, if I remember correctly. There's the whole bit you pointed out, but the fact that Optifine needs to be installed after Forge and Spx sometimes needs to update Optifine to be compatible with new versions of Forge gives me the feeling Optifine also has some Forge compatibility features.
