I also think the vanilla recipe for bread (3 wheat = 1 bread) should be removed too. I think you should have to make bread with flour, fresh water and salt.

O brother no plz don't, i already hate the dang mod to much, if i cant make bread with 3 wheat any more ill just end up disabling the mod all together to even play the pack.

I eat only PBJ's atm, simply cause i can make bread with 3 wheat, and cause i hate making things that require a zillion steps and a another thousand products using a random set of tools, that dang mod is worse then gregtech in my opinion tbh.

Oh :( Pam's HarvestCraft is my second favorite Minecraft mod ever...even without Hunger Overhaul or SoL, I LOVE the mod...I love making all the food...no idea why, just love love love it. That being said, I hope bread stays just like it is, thank you very much. hehe

Anyway, so downloaded the 1.2.1 server today to start a new world (getting impatient for 1.3 hehe), launched the server...crash. Redownload, crash again...anyone know what might be up?

Dude, use Steves Factory manager to make your food!

I set up 2 chests, a furnace and a manager. An hour later, I had Apple pie, blueberry pie, donuts, bread, toast, jelly donuts, powdered donuts, PB+J, and a few other bits and pieces auto refilling a chest up to 5 pieces each.

Totally worth doing. I really only need to keep throwing different components in, and I keep getting goodies out. System turns:

Water bottles into fresh water (Just refill it when you notice it not making new dough.
Potatoes or Rice into flour (Prefers rice, will use potato when out of rice)
Sunflower seeds or Olives into cooking oil
Grapes into Jelly (I feel like the other jelly sandwiches are a bit of a cheap cop out)
Sugar Cane into sugar
Dough into bread
Some bread into toast
Dough into donuts
Donuts and sugar into powdered donuts (Really good, cheap food)
Donuts and Jelly into Jelly donuts
Soon, chocolate and Jelly into Choc donuts
dough, apple, sugar into pie
dough, blueberry, sugar into pie

Soon I'll have a chicken ranch up too, so I can add a WHOLE heap more. And a dairy farm too. Realistically, what I have is enough to keep going for pretty much the entire game, but I want to make it look better. Might keep going until I get to AE and use that system to auto craft everything though, as it makes storing it a lot easier.

Dude how about no :p

I spend 5 min behind crafting table and i got a stack of 4/5 diff types of bread, thats about all the effort i ever want to put into making food.

Actually 5 min is a bit over rated, with shift clicking its proll a bit shorter ><

It's perfectly fine, but in a game where balance is a concern, it just makes so many things obsolete, which isn't fun.

And by many things, I mean literally any veg not specifically named in a recipe (Like mushroom burger) and EVERY LIVESTOCK ANIMAL..

Other note: Quite often my machine interfaces to my pnuematic chamber sit with items in them for a really, REALLY long time. What's going on there?
Soy substitute allows meat-based meals when meat is hard to come by. Which often happens when you're trying to get Vanilla passive spawns. The trade-off is using a machine that's totally manual use without automation [can't even shift-click stuff in] and is a PITA to automate without AE [I'm looking at you, itemducts]. In my last AgS playthrough, I had so much actual meat products that I was using those for meals vs. soy. Once you get the auto-spawner going, it's far easier to get your meat that way IMO.

I believe the interface lag is a pressure issue and possibly related to the number of items you're trying to insert.

Yeah, I've made homemade tofu, yet cannot for the life of me imagine using it as the primary protein source...... I do find Miso soup a nice, and far quicker option than a chicken soup when someone is not feeling up to the weather. Not sure I'd call it disgusting though, at least when prepared properly.
Every time I hear someone mention home-made miso soup, I always picture Hoshi from 'Enterprise' cooking her Grandmother's soup for the crew 'not ready yet...needs more salt'.

Found a good city location for a more permanent residence [2 Reactors side-by-side :D / those buildings are freakin' awesome!] and plan to use Pyrotheum for my heating needs. Do I need to worry about it moving around on it's own [vertically]?

It's possible you may be doing it wrong :p Presser automation with itemducts is trivial once you know "input top/output bottom."

-snip-
by the end of the first week, you should have infinite water supply with only minor maintenance (you can get this as early as day two, if you get flawless RNG rolls on bonemeal and sieve). once you have access to machines after the city visit you can make it fully automated. by the time you can even make witch water, there is no way you should have any problems whatsoever mass producing it.

What water making techniques am I missing?
Shears. (Not exactly minor maintenance?)
Cactus farm. (Perhaps in a couple of weeks?)
MFR farm. (Certainly not in the first few weeks!)

Recommended city-raiding gear for the brute-force player [worked for me so far]:
3/4 or full set Diamond Armor enchanted with Protection 4 and Unbreaking 3 : easily gotten/copied from mob farm using Iron Spikes
Jetpack + Glider [FYI: you can enchant your Jetpack ;)]
Fire-Resistance [8 min] + Strength [8 min] + Regeneration [2 min] potions : quicker you kill mobs / sooner you can neutralize those spawners
Always keep the Fire resist up [I've been lit-up by ZPigmen arrows]
Good weapon : I use the Scythe cause I like the AoE but it does do less dmg than others
Mini Hearts : eat them in a pinch to restore 10/20 hearts
Highest mining level+speed pickaxe you can make: for destroying those spawners / quick escape through ceiling

But Most Importantly - Know when to GTFO. You're not invincible...yet [Exo-Armor with heart upgrades maybe?]. You can always go back later. The mobs will still be there, happily waiting for your return.

It's possible you may be doing it wrong :p Presser automation with itemducts is trivial once you know "input top/output bottom."
Is that correct? I seem to remember input side / output bottom. You may be right [about me doing it wrong] but either way, my memories of working with them and itemducts are in no way pleasant.

What water making techniques am I missing?
Shears. (Not exactly minor maintenance?)
Cactus farm. (Perhaps in a couple of weeks?)
MFR farm. (Certainly not in the first few weeks!)
Shears are meant to be early-game and so manual [but only the harvesting]. Throw them into a container and let a duct/item node do the heavy lifting.
You can have a size-able cactus farm early-game. Search for a CL cactus farm. You'll find a picture of a multi-chunk setup that uses fences to harvest the cacti and water streams to collect the drops. All you need do is make/sift sand...and chop trees.

The one method I don't see is dirt->dirty water->furnace->potable water. Also early game with flesh and better with any farm producing compost-able items [mob/tree/string/crop/etc.]

Edit: wow, I sure got a lot to say today. One positive thing about these random zombie spawns...I was able [and luckily prepared] to net me a Zombie Villager! Finally someone to talk to / throw stuff at / toss into a Smeltry?

Further edit: Hah, PC Villager!

Oh :( Pam's HarvestCraft is my second favorite Minecraft mod ever...even without Hunger Overhaul or SoL, I LOVE the mod...I love making all the food...no idea why, just love love love it. That being said, I hope bread stays just like it is, thank you very much. hehe

I know the feeling. When I was playing agskies, I was like, screw that. I have my toast. then I made those gigantinormous amount of stuff for 'her' and decided to play around, still didn't like it that much. Played CL, then agskies again. found myself making a bunch of manual farms in both after playing CL for a while (even before SOL) and found it sorta cathartic. Walk around my multiple 9x9 farms, pick crops, put in chest, autosort to barrels in front of food processing tables. Make some foods but then just eat pizzas all the time or the breakfast. dunno. was really wierd. I like storing all that food stuff and collecting it. have more sugar cane than I'll ever need... :)

I'd say I had a green thumb but I talk to a plant in RL and it commits suicide, so yeah. not so well. Don't know, but I agree with you. Without pam's in the mix, it seems so damn useless eating steaks or porkchops all the time. Not enough texan I guess. It's REALLY wierd and I don't quite understand the power pam has over me. *decides this needs a lot more studying in detail, and graphs, and pretty charts too, oh, and I can make a nice soufle to go... STOP*

I had not thought of an early mob(drop) grinder for water making. (Flesh->dirt etc as you said).
Perhaps this is what they meant by day 2 water...

I have been overheating a lot, and then found the answer. SNOW. Cheap and easy it is a good idea to place as many blocks as you can as early as possible. Nice and cool

By the time I had the option to make snow, I already had a full diamond set which keeps me cool anyway.

Really ? i input on the left side, and output on the right side and i have had no issues with my my chambers so far. Nothing is getting stuck unless i fail to set up a good filter on the output, or if i fail to refuel the air compressors. Its still on a chest -> tube set up atm though, but i see no reason to change the input\output side since it handles the items quite well so far even in bulk.

I understand that this map is to make things difficult, but I also feel that 'the grind' shouldn't be all that there is to the map so today I did it... I finally broke down and did it.... After managing mob essence from my mob trap for as many reactant dynamos as it could power, burning wood into charcoal for generators, using bio-reactors, etc... I finally got annoyed and re-enabled lava generators...

Though, to be fair (and to balance them a bit), I altered the recipe to require 2x PRC LX-300s

?

What i used was this and directly upgraded to thisone what on earth do you need lava generators for if you can mob trap endermen for the ender generator ? Im having a hard time understanding what you think is hard or grindy about this pack in its current version.

More info on that reactor in the upcomming blog post, been to busy in RL to keep up that pace, had a lot of visitors this weekend

With little effort i could have upgraded that to a 9x9 reactor producing slightly over 27k rf/t, dust gives yellorium for days so if i want to setup a laser i might actually do that instead of doing turbines since they dont produce that much power and are only more fuel eff then reactors witch is the last thing youll need on this map with SFM sieving.

I've yet to find a city with reactor buildings... after 4 attempts, all the while I've been expanding my base, automating this and that, etc. Currently I have a 'power thirst' of around 1000rf/t (Auto tree farm & water maker, auto sieve, various 'workshop' machines, etc). Without the lava gens, it was getting excessively grindy to make and then maintain the generators

1000rf/t.... wow... someone needs to turn off their lights!

seriously, how can you be using this much power constantly...

I have 6 furnace generators atm, and they satisfy all my power needs, except the mob farms which power themselves.

I don't get how maintaining generators can get to be a pain really either, no automation?
